When HomeBase 3 makes sense
HomeBase 3, also called S380, brings compatible eufy devices into a shared local-storage system. It is worth considering when you want more recording space, a central place to manage cameras, or the hub features supported by your particular camera.
Start with the devices you own rather than the hub name. A camera being listed as compatible does not mean every recording mode, AI feature or smart-home integration is available in that pairing. Use the exact-model compatibility checker before buying. Our HomeBase 2, 3 and Mini comparison explains the main storage and setup differences.
- Compatible cameraCaptures footage using its own lenses, power source and supported recording modes.
- HomeBase 3Stores recordings and provides the hub features supported by that camera.
- eufy appUsed to set up devices and view footage, with network access as required.
Built-in storage and an optional drive
HomeBase 3 has 16 GB of built-in storage. It can accept a compatible 2.5-inch SATA HDD or SSD up to 16 TB. A USB drive or microSD card is not a substitute for that internal SATA expansion drive. Check the drive's power requirements against eufy's storage installation instructions.
Retention depends on the number of cameras, resolution, clip lengths and recording activity. Choose storage around your intended use rather than a fixed promise of weeks or months. Back up an existing drive before installation: setting it up for HomeBase can involve formatting. A drive is included only if the exact offer lists one.
Plan the setup before mounting cameras
- Confirm the camera model. Find the model number on the device or in its app settings, then check its pairing and feature requirements.
- Allow for mains power and router access. Start HomeBase setup with an Ethernet connection to your router and follow the eufy app prompts.
- Update before pairing. Keep the app and device firmware current. HomeBase 3 can use Wi-Fi with supported firmware; Ethernet remains a useful connection option.
- Check the real camera location. Pair the camera, view its stream and test a walking route before fixing a mount. Walls and placement can affect the connection.
- Check recording and storage settings. Confirm the recording mode your camera actually supports and the retention you need.
HomeBase 3 provides AI recognition functions for supported combinations. These are aids to sorting events, with settings and results that depend on the camera and conditions. The hub does not increase a camera's lens resolution or supply its battery with power.
Check the offer's contents and condition
For a hub-only purchase, confirm the power adapter, Ethernet lead and any storage drive listed in the offer. Condition describes the particular stock, including its packaging and any cosmetic marks; it is separate from whether your camera can pair with it. Read the condition guide and the exact product description together.
If you are choosing cameras as well, read the eufyCam 2C guide and SoloCam S340 guide. Both are motion-event cameras; buying HomeBase 3 does not turn them into a 24/7 recording system. Camera systems record events; they do not prevent them.
