Privacy policy

Last updated: 29 October 2026

CamGuard Australia (ABN 62 385 894 763) operates this online store and provides retail, delivery and customer support services. This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information when you browse our website, buy from us, contact us, subscribe to updates or submit a return, warranty registration or claim. Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified person, or a person who can reasonably be identified.

Our store is powered by Shopify. This policy covers our retail and support activities; Shopify and other service providers also have their own privacy policies. If our Terms of Service conflict with this policy about the handling of personal information, this policy applies to that issue. Nothing in this policy limits rights you have under applicable Australian law. Reading this policy or browsing our website does not, by itself, give consent to marketing or every use of your information.

1. Information we collect and where it comes from

The information we collect depends on how you interact with us. It may include:

  • Contact and delivery details: your name, email, phone number, billing and delivery addresses, and delivery instructions. If you send an order to someone else, we collect the recipient details you provide to fulfil that delivery.
  • Orders and payments: products ordered, order and transaction references, purchase history, payment method, payment status, refunds, returns and shipping or tracking details. Payment providers process card and other payment credentials through their systems; the transaction information available to us depends on the payment method. Please do not send full card numbers or payment passwords to us by email or through a support form.
  • Accounts and preferences: account contact details, saved addresses, shopping preferences and marketing or notification choices. Account authentication is handled by the relevant platform. We do not ask you to send us your account password.
  • Support and warranty information: enquiries and correspondence, proof of purchase, product model and serial number, fault details, warranty registration or claim details, return information, and photos, videos or documents you choose to provide.
  • Website and device information: IP address, browser and device details, cookie or similar identifiers, referral information, pages or products viewed, cart activity, and interactions with our website or advertisements.

We collect information directly when you place an order, fill out a form, contact us or choose a subscription; automatically through website technologies; and from providers involved in payments, delivery, analytics and advertising. Where you buy through a marketplace such as eBay, we receive the order and contact information that platform makes available for fulfilment and support, subject to its rules. A marketplace purchase alone is not treated as permission to add you to our marketing list.

You can browse without telling us your name. You may also contact us anonymously or using a pseudonym where practical. We generally need accurate contact, order and delivery details to fulfil a purchase or resolve a specific warranty or return request. If necessary information is not provided, we may be unable to provide that service. Please only provide another person's details where you are authorised to do so and let them know about this policy.

2. Why we use personal information

We use information reasonably needed to:

  • process payments, fulfil and deliver orders, provide order updates, and manage accounts, returns and refunds;
  • answer enquiries, provide product support, and assess and administer warranty registrations and claims;
  • send notifications you request, such as a restock alert, and manage your communication preferences;
  • understand website use, improve our products and services, measure advertising effectiveness and provide relevant advertising as described below;
  • detect fraud or misuse, investigate disputes, maintain business and accounting records, and meet legal obligations.

We use or disclose personal information for these purposes, related purposes you would reasonably expect where permitted by law, purposes you authorise, or as otherwise permitted or required by law. For sensitive information, a secondary purpose must be directly related where Australian privacy law requires this. We do not generally seek sensitive information; if it is necessary for a service, we will explain why and obtain consent where required. We do not treat a support enquiry or warranty claim as consent to unrelated promotional messages.

Unresolved returns and order review. We may keep a limited internal record of an outstanding return and any related service decision: the order or claim reference, contact details, delivery and return-tracking evidence, correspondence, the reason, dates and outcome. We use it to administer the return, apply our policies consistently, provide factual information a marketplace's rules allow and, where lawful, establish, exercise or defend a legal claim. Lateness alone is not proof of fraud, and a shared address alone is not used to identify who is responsible.

Computer-assisted return checks. We use software to match order, delivery, return-tracking and correspondence records, identify unresolved returns and schedule checks or notices. A missing scan is not a decision that money is owed. A person must review the evidence before a payment demand, recovery referral or refusal of future business; those decisions are not made solely by this return-checking process. You can ask us to review a record or decision using sections 10 to 12.

3. Who may receive information

Information may be available to authorised people working for our business and to service providers where needed for their role. Recipient categories include:

  • Shopify for our store, checkout, accounts, hosting, fraud prevention and the enhanced services described in section 4;
  • payment providers to process payments, refunds, payment disputes and fraud checks;
  • delivery and fulfilment providers, including Australia Post, to arrange delivery, tracking and returns;
  • email, support and cloud providers, including Google services, to manage correspondence and warranty records or evidence;
  • website, notification and advertising providers, including Google Analytics, Google Ads and STOQ restock notification services, for the functions described in this policy;
  • marketplaces such as eBay, to manage orders, returns, disputes and factual reports their rules allow;
  • professional advisers, debt collectors, tribunals, courts and relevant authorities where reasonably necessary and lawful for accounting, a legal obligation, a dispute, a lawful request, or establishing, exercising or defending a legal claim.

If resolving a product issue requires a repairer, supplier or manufacturer, we may share relevant product, fault and contact information where necessary and consistent with the purpose of your request. Information may also be disclosed where you ask us to do so, or in connection with a lawful sale or transfer of the business with appropriate privacy safeguards. We do not sell or rent customer contact lists. Advertising and Shopify enhanced services can involve data sharing, as explained below.

Where reasonably necessary and permitted by applicable privacy law to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim, we may disclose relevant contact, agreement, invoice, correspondence, return-tracking and payment-status information to an adviser, a debt collector we engage, or a tribunal or court. We disclose only what is needed, identify disputes and uncertainty, correct errors and update the recipient when the matter is resolved. We do not publish customer blacklists or circulate them to other retailers. Lateness or a missing return scan alone is not treated as a credit default or crime and is not reported to a shared credit or retail-crime register.

4. Shopify and enhanced services

Shopify collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of our store to provide and improve its services. Information you submit is transmitted to and shared with Shopify and relevant third parties, including parties outside Australia.

Our store uses Shopify Network Intelligence and certain enhanced services. To help protect, grow and improve our business, these services use information from your interactions with our store together with information from your interactions with other merchants and Shopify. They may support fraud prevention, personalisation and advertising, including personalised advertising with third-party services. Other merchants do not receive direct access to our store's customer records through this feature.

For these enhanced services, Shopify is responsible for its processing, including responding to requests about that processing. Read the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy and use the Shopify Privacy Portal to find the choices and rights available to you. You can also contact us about information we hold.

5. Cookies, analytics and advertising

Our website uses cookies, pixels and similar technologies. Some help the store function, keep your cart or preferences, support checkout and detect misuse. Others help measure visits and advertising results or show relevant advertisements. Google Analytics and Google Ads may receive device or cookie identifiers, IP-related information and details of website interactions for these purposes. The information available to a provider depends on its technology and your settings.

You can manage or block cookies through your browser, use any privacy controls displayed on our website, and manage personalised advertising through Google My Ad Center. Google also offers a Google Analytics browser opt-out. Read Google's Privacy Policy for its handling of information. Blocking some technologies can affect store features, and these choices may need to be set separately on each browser or device. An advertising opt-out does not remove all advertising.

You can ask us to stop using or disclosing your personal information for direct marketing, including targeted advertising, by contacting us using section 12. We will action your request as required by applicable law and explain any additional provider controls you can use. We do not assume that a single website setting controls every third-party service.

6. Marketing and notifications

We send promotional email or SMS only with your express or valid inferred consent, unless a specific legal exemption applies. Marketing messages identify our business and provide a simple unsubscribe method. You can use that method or contact us to withdraw consent. We action email and SMS marketing unsubscribe requests within five working days, without a fee or requiring you to sign in.

A requested restock alert uses your contact details to tell you about that product's availability. It does not, by itself, sign you up for unrelated marketing. You can ask us to cancel the alert. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop necessary order, delivery, account, return or warranty communications.

7. Warranty forms and device information

Our warranty registration and claim service uses Google-hosted business systems, including Apps Script, Sheets, Drive and email, to receive, organise and assess submissions. Information and evidence you submit may be stored in those systems and emailed to our support mailbox. Authorised support personnel may access it to handle your request.

Please provide only evidence relevant to the issue. Where practical, crop or redact unrelated people, addresses, private conversations and documents before uploading. Do not send account passwords, security PINs, fingerprint templates or other access credentials.

This policy covers information supplied to us as a retailer. A camera, doorbell, lock or its manufacturer's app may collect recordings, audio, device or biometric information under separate settings and privacy terms. Check the relevant manufacturer's or app provider's policy. If you choose to send us a recording or screenshot for support, it becomes part of the support information described here.

8. Storage, security and retention

Personal information is held in Shopify and other business, email, cloud and support systems, and in business records where needed. We take reasonable steps to protect it against misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include managing access permissions and limiting access to people who need information for their work. No system or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.

We retain information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, including order fulfilment, warranty support, accounting and tax obligations, fraud prevention and resolving disputes. Different records may need different retention periods. When information is no longer needed and retention is not legally required, we take reasonable steps to securely delete it or de-identify it. We may retain a minimal record of an unsubscribe request to avoid contacting you again.

If we become aware of a suspected data breach, we assess it and take appropriate steps to contain and respond to it. We notify affected individuals and regulators where required by applicable law, including the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme where it applies.

Return and order-review records, including a private record of any lawful future-service restriction, are checked for accuracy and relevance before use or disclosure. We record the verified conduct and basis, notices, dates, disputes, extensions and outcome; we do not label someone fraudulent merely because a return is late or a scan is missing. We correct errors, mark resolved matters accurately, remove a restriction based solely on a resolved return and retain only information still reasonably needed for a lawful purpose. Access is limited to authorised people. You may request access, correction or review using sections 10 to 12.

9. Overseas processing

Our providers may store, access or process information outside Australia. Our Shopify customer data hosting location is currently the United States. Shopify also uses group companies and providers in countries including Canada, Singapore and Ireland. Their functions and processing locations vary; a provider's headquarters is not necessarily the location where a particular record is stored.

Google and other providers operate internationally and may use additional countries for processing or support. An exhaustive list is not always practicable because locations depend on the service and may change. You can review Shopify's provider information, the provider privacy policies linked above, or contact us for further information reasonably available about providers relevant to your enquiry.

Where Australian privacy law requires safeguards for an overseas disclosure, we take reasonable steps to meet those requirements. Use of this website is not a waiver of applicable Australian privacy protections.

10. Access, correction and other requests

You can ask for access to personal information we hold about you or ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. Contact our Privacy Contact using section 12 and describe your request. We may ask for reasonable information to verify your identity or an authorised representative's authority, to protect your information. Please do not send identity documents unless we request them through an appropriate channel.

We aim to respond within 30 days. If we need more time, we will explain why and keep you informed. We do not charge for making an access request or for correcting information. If a lawful and reasonable cost is necessary to provide access, we will explain it in advance. If we cannot fulfil a request, we will explain the reason and available complaint options, subject to lawful restrictions.

You can also ask us to delete information or close an account. We will consider the request, but may need to keep records for legal obligations, warranties, fraud prevention or disputes. Australian law does not provide an unconditional right to delete every business record. Depending on where you live, additional legal rights may include deletion, portability, objection, restriction or withdrawal of consent. We handle these requests as required by the law that applies. Requests concerning Shopify's separate processing can also be made through its Privacy Portal.

11. Privacy complaints

If you are concerned about how we handle personal information, contact our Privacy Contact using section 12. Include enough detail to help us investigate and the outcome you are seeking. We will acknowledge your complaint as soon as reasonably practical, investigate it and aim to provide a substantive response within 30 days. If it takes longer, we will explain the delay and the next steps.

If you are not satisfied with our response, or have not received a response after 30 days, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) on 1300 363 992. The OAIC can explain whether it has jurisdiction to consider your complaint. You may also have access to another relevant regulator or complaint process under applicable law.
