Class 7 · Restored exhibits · Entry no. S4 Manufacturer Renewed · Grade: Excellent

eufyCam S4

Three lenses on one mount. A fixed 4K wide lens watches the whole scene, then a 2K pair swings across, locks on and zooms in. This one has been back to the factory and come out the other side.

Runs on its own, no hub required. A eufy HomeBase S380 is optional and adds a few named extras. A HomeBase 2, HomeBase Mini, HomeBase Professional or the NVR will not pair with this camera. Worth knowing before you buy.

Condition

Manufacturer Renewed, graded Excellent. It was used before. eufy refurbished it. It arrives in renewed packaging, not an individual retail box.

What else you need

Nothing. It works standalone on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. A HomeBase S380 is optional and is the only base that pairs. Not HomeBase 2, Mini, Professional or the NVR.

Getting it and keeping it

Australia Post Express included on every order over $99.00, dispatched in 1 business day from Townsville QLD. 12-month CamGuard warranty.

Class fitment

You do not need to buy a hub. Here is what one changes.

Most eufyCam models are dead without a HomeBase. The S4 is not one of them, which is the single most useful thing to understand about it.

Works with no hub at all

  • Live view and event recording to the camera's own 32GB
  • microSD expansion up to 256GB
  • On-device AI: human, vehicle and pet
  • Bullet-to-PTZ tracking and auto-framing
  • 105dB siren, red and blue warning lights
  • Full duplex two-way audio
  • Alerts to the free eufy Security app
  • No subscription for any of the above

Only once a HomeBase S380 is present

  • Stranger Alert
  • Cross-camera tracking
  • 24/7 smart snapshot
  • Fusion Link
  • Footage stored centrally on the base

The S380 is the only compatible base. eufy lists HomeBase 2, HomeBase Mini, HomeBase Professional and the NVR as unsupported for this camera. If the hub already in your cupboard is one of those, it will not pair, and buying this camera to join it will not work.

Provenance

Let's do the condition first

This camera had a previous life. It went back to eufy, where it was professionally inspected, tested and restored to full working order through the manufacturer's own renewal programme, then graded before resale. Restored by the people who built it, which in car-club terms is the only kind of restoration nobody argues about at the sausage stand.

It is graded Excellent, the top renewed grade. Expect near-new cosmetics: at most a faint handling mark you would have to go looking for, and nothing that touches how it works or its IP65 rating.

It arrives in renewed packaging rather than an individual retail box. The camera is complete and one camera's full share of the accessories is there, solar panel included. The box is the only thing that isn't.

And it is covered: our in-house 12-month CamGuard warranty. That is a CamGuard warranty, not a manufacturer warranty, and it sits on top of your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

Under the bonnet

One lens spots it. Two lenses go and have a look.

The top lens is a fixed 4K bullet, 3840 by 2160, with a 130 degree diagonal view watching the whole scene. Underneath it sits a 2K pair on a motorised head. When the bullet's PIR picks up movement, the pair swings across, locks on and follows, with 8× hybrid zoom pulling detail from up to about 50 metres away. It will auto-frame more than one subject at a time.

Because the lower pair moves, there are no fixed blind spots the way there are on a camera bolted in one direction for good. Radar on the PTZ side reaches about 12 metres and the PIR on the bullet about 9, and the on-device AI sorts people from vehicles from pets, so your phone is not buzzing every time a possum crosses the lawn.

After dark

It stops being subtle

Four 850nm infrared LEDs light the scene to about 10 metres in black and white. Turn the spotlights on instead and you get full colour. When you want to make a point, there is a 105 decibel siren and red and blue warning lights: active deterrence rather than a quiet recording nobody looks at until the morning.

Two-way audio is full duplex through a dual microphone array with noise reduction, so you can actually talk over the top of someone instead of taking turns.

Running costs

It charges itself, and it does not charge you

The 5.5 watt panel detaches, so it goes where the sun is rather than where the camera has to be, and it starts charging from as little as 2,500 lux. Behind it sits a 10,000mAh quick-swap battery, which means a flat battery is a two-minute job rather than a ladder-and-an-extension-cord afternoon.

Footage lives on the camera: 32GB built in, expandable with a microSD card up to 256GB, and no subscription needed to keep the detection, alerts or siren working.

One thing to know before you buy: 24/7 continuous recording is real, but it needs the camera on wired power, a 5V 2A or better supply, with camera firmware V1.0.5.4 or later. On solar and battery it records events rather than a continuous stream.

It went back to the factory, not to a bloke in a shed.

The judge's card

Every limitation this camera has, written the way the bloke with the clipboard writes it. Points come off presentation. None of them come off the exhibit.

Judging card
Class 7 · Entry S4 · Grade Excellent
Criterion Off Remarks
Provenance 0 It was used before. This is a Manufacturer Renewed unit, refurbished by eufy, not new stock. If you want factory sealed, buy the Brand New entry in Class 3 instead.
Presentation −2 Renewed packaging, not an individual retail box. Expect a plain carton. Excellent grade means near-new cosmetics: at most a faint handling mark up close.
Class fitment −1 HomeBase S380 is the only base that pairs. A HomeBase 2, Mini, Professional or NVR will not work with it. Stranger Alert, cross-camera tracking, 24/7 smart snapshot and Fusion Link only appear once an S380 is present.
Continuous running −1 24/7 recording needs wired power, 5V 2A or better, plus camera firmware V1.0.5.4 or later. On solar it records events, not a continuous stream.
Wiring −1 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only. It will not join a 5GHz-only network. If pairing gives you trouble, set the 2.4GHz band to a channel between 1 and 11 and try again.
Ecosystem −1 No Apple HomeKit. eufy's own HomeKit device list does not include this model and its spec sheet lists HomeKit as not currently supported. Alexa and Google Assistant both work.
Frame rate −1 Video runs at up to 15 frames per second. Normal for a battery camera at this resolution, but it is not the smoothness of a mains-powered wired camera.
Storage card −1 No microSD card in the box. The built-in 32GB works on its own; the card is only if you want more headroom.
Judged & passed The points are ours and they are a joke. The remarks are the facts.

Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

HomeBase 2, HomeBase Mini, HomeBase Professional and the NVR. eufy lists all four as unsupported for this camera. None of them will pair.

No

5GHz-only Wi-Fi. It needs a 2.4GHz network, which nearly every home router provides alongside 5GHz.

Note

24/7 continuous recording needs wired power, 5V 2A or better, and camera firmware V1.0.5.4 or later.

Note

eufy Security app, free on iOS and Android. Alerts, live view and playback all live there.

Probably not for you if…

  • You want factory sealed and untouched
  • The hub you already own is a HomeBase 2, Mini or Professional
  • You are in the Apple HomeKit ecosystem
  • You want 24/7 recording without running power to the camera
  • You need the retail box because it is a gift

Made for…

  • A driveway or front fence where you want to see who, not just that something moved
  • Long approaches where 8× zoom actually earns its keep
  • Sheds, carports and fence lines with sun but no power
  • Anyone who would rather bank the difference than pay for a sealed carton
  • People who would rather swap a battery than climb a ladder with a cable

Questions

Asked over the fence

Everything that gets asked at a Sunday meet, roughly in the order it gets asked. Tap a question for the answer.

Does it need a HomeBase?

No. It runs on its own over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and records to its own 32GB. A HomeBase S380 is optional. If you already have one, it adds Stranger Alert, cross-camera tracking, 24/7 smart snapshot and Fusion Link.

Asked first, every time
I've got a HomeBase 2 in the cupboard. Will that do?

No, and this is the one to get right before you buy. The S380 is the only base that pairs with the S4. eufy lists HomeBase 2, HomeBase Mini, HomeBase Professional and the NVR as unsupported for this camera.

The expensive mistake
What does Manufacturer Renewed actually mean?

The unit was used, then returned and put through eufy's own renewal process, where it was inspected, tested and restored to working order before being graded and resold. That testing is the manufacturer's, not ours. What we do is photograph and log every serial number at dispatch, so your warranty record exists from the day it ships.

Fair question
And what does the Excellent grade mean?

It is the top renewed grade. Near-new cosmetics: at most a faint handling mark you would have to hunt for, nothing you would notice with the camera on a wall, and nothing that affects function or the IP65 rating.

Crouching down to look
Why is there no box?

This one came out of a multi-camera set, so there is no individual retail carton for it. It arrives in renewed packaging with one camera's full share of the accessories, solar panel included. The box is the only thing missing, and it is part of why the price is what it is.

Asked while eating a snag
Three lenses. What's actually the point?

The top lens is fixed and always watching wide in 4K. The bottom pair sits on a motor. When the wide lens sees movement, the pair swings across, locks on and zooms, up to 8× and out to about 50 metres. A single fixed camera has to choose between wide and detailed. This one doesn't.

The one worth answering properly
Can it record 24/7?

Yes, on wired power. It needs a 5V 2A or better supply and camera firmware V1.0.5.4 or later. On solar and battery it records events instead, which is how nearly every battery camera works.

Asked by the bloke with the ute
Any monthly fees?

None for anything on this page. Recording to the camera, AI human, vehicle and pet detection, alerts, live view, two-way audio and the siren all work with no subscription. eufy sells a cloud plan separately. You don't need it for the above.

Always worth checking
Apple HomeKit?

Not on this model. eufy's HomeKit device list does not include the S4, and its spec sheet lists HomeKit as not currently supported. Alexa and Google Assistant both work.

Asked by the iPhone household
What's the warranty, given it's renewed?

The same as everything else we sell: our in-house 12-month CamGuard warranty, which is a CamGuard warranty and not a manufacturer warranty, in addition to your Australian Consumer Law rights. Faulty-item returns are always free. Have the serial number ready and we will already have the photo on file.

The real question
The spot I want gets almost no sun. Does that kill it?

No, and this is where the detachable panel earns its money. The panel goes where the light is, up to the length of the extension cable, while the camera goes where you want it looking. Worst case, the battery is a quick-swap, so a flat one is a two-minute change rather than an afternoon.

Asked in a shady carport
Hang on. Is this a car show?

It's a security camera page that got carried away at a Sunday meet. Everything under the gag is literal: previously used, refurbished by eufy, graded Excellent, renewed packaging with no retail box, standalone with an optional S380, no subscription, 12-month CamGuard warranty. The trophies are decorative. The remarks on the judge's card are not.
