The fixed camera can hand detected movement to the PTZ head for tracking and auto-framing. eufy advertises close-up framing up to 50 m; actual distance depends on subject size and environmental conditions.
Solar panel included
The detachable 5.5 W SolarPlus 2.0 panel can mount on the camera or separately. eufy's one-hour daily direct-sun scenario assumes optimal sunlight and average use; shade, weather and workload change the result.
Built-in storage, expandable
32 GB of storage is built into the camera, with room to add a microSD card up to 256 GB if you want more.
The honest details
Before you buy.
- The lens figures don't add together. The fixed lens records 4K and the PTZ head has two separate 2K lens roles. These are distinct views, not one combined resolution.
- 24/7 recording needs a cable, not just sun. Continuous recording only works on direct power, with current camera firmware and a microSD card or a HomeBase 3 hard drive. Battery and solar power run event-based recording, not a continuous feed. eufy's US and AU pages also disagree on the adapter's current rating (2 A versus 3 A); we could not confirm which is correct.
- Apple HomeKit is not supported, despite one spec line naming it. The S4's own FAQ is direct: HomeKit is not currently supported. A different line on the AU page's spec table lists Apple HomeKit under 'Smart Integration'. We go with the FAQ's direct statement.
- HomeBase Professional S1 pairs too. The dedicated Professional S1 compatibility guide lists eufyCam S4, T8172, and eufy sells the pairing as a bundle. Update the S1's firmware before pairing.
- It alerts. It does not prevent. A camera records, detects and notifies. It is one part of home security, not the whole of it.

S4 can work on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi without a hub, or pair with a supported HomeBase for additional features. Use the eufy app and keep its removable battery charged. Position the detachable solar panel for useful sunlight. Continuous recording needs direct power and supported firmware; confirm the adapter requirement for the exact unit.

S4 has 32 GB built in and supports a compatible microSD card up to 256 GB. HomeBase 3 offers another supported storage route. Continuous recording requires a microSD card or a compatible drive in HomeBase 3, plus direct power and current firmware. Cards, drives and optional hub equipment are separate unless listed in this offer.
- Charge it fully first. Use the included USB-C cable and your own suitable adapter before it goes anywhere near a ladder.
- Pair it next to the router. Open the eufy Security app on a 2.4 GHz network and add the camera. Then walk it to the mounting spot and check the signal holds before you drill.
- Mount for sun and view together. Position the fixed lens for its wide view and place the detachable solar panel, on the camera or on its own mount nearby, somewhere that gets a decent run of daily sun.
- Set positions and detection areas. Use the app to save the default view and set detection areas, then test alerts and tracking from the installed position.

Questions people ask.
Is an Excellent-grade unit worse at its job than a new one?
No. The grade describes the housing, not the electronics. A renewed unit runs the same published spec sheet. The difference is cosmetic marks and the plain packaging it ships in.
Do I need a HomeBase or a subscription to use it?
No to either, for standalone use. The S4 works on its own over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and saves clips to its built-in 32 GB. HomeBase S380 (HomeBase 3) is an optional add-on for extra features and is not included.
Does it record all day, every day?
Only when wired to direct power, with current camera firmware and a microSD card or a HomeBase 3 hard drive. On battery or solar power it records events, not a continuous feed.
Does it work with Apple Home?
Do not choose S4 for a required HomeKit setup without confirmed support. The compatibility section explains the conflicting official statements.
When will it ship, and what does delivery cost?

Mission 1 · the case opens
Victim: one pot plant. Witnesses: three lenses with different jobs.
The fictional crime is petty: a ceramic pot has moved three metres and the household group chat has reached royal-commission intensity. The real S4 proposition is more useful. An upper 4K bullet camera holds a fixed 130-degree overview while the lower dual-lens PTZ camera can follow motion around a 360-degree coverage area.
That combination keeps two kinds of evidence on screen: broad context from the fixed view and tracked detail from the moving view. When bullet-to-PTZ tracking is enabled, detection in the fixed view can hand the subject to the PTZ for continued tracking and auto-framing.
The tracking system is designed for people and other supported target categories, not for identifying basil varieties or proving who shifted the pot. The plant is the running gag; the factual capability is coordinated fixed-view and PTZ coverage from one installation point.

The S4 camera crew has clear roles. Confusing those roles is how a harmless pot plant ends up with a twelve-page conspiracy board.

The upper bullet camera records up to 4K and holds a 130-degree fixed view over the selected approach or yard zone.

No. It describes the lower PTZ camera’s ability to rotate around its installed position, not x-ray vision and not an uninterrupted view through buildings, trees, fences or parked vehicles.
Mounting height, initial angle, obstructions and the PTZ’s resting position all affect what it can acquire and follow. The pot plant cannot be tracked after it enters a shed with the roller door down. Even a triple-lens camera must obey walls.

Mission 3 · route planning
Wide view spots the movement. PTZ keeps the getaway in frame.
The useful setup is not “point it somewhere outdoors and hope the AI has initiative”. Give the fixed camera a clear overview of the route that matters, then orient the PTZ so its default position can acquire movement quickly. eufy notes that a large angle difference between views can slow the tracking handoff.
Auto-framing can zoom in for an individual and widen when a group enters. That is practical for a driveway, gate or broad side passage where the full scene and the moving close-up answer different questions. It is not a guarantee that every target will remain visible through every obstruction or lighting change.
For the fictional basil incident, the map has a wide surveillance zone, a circular tracking zone and a very smug pot. For an actual installation, test walking routes by day and night, review the captured views, and adjust zones before trusting the default settings.
The useful bitGood positioning helps the fixed-to-PTZ handoff. Tracking and auto-framing remain dependent on view, distance, obstacles and environmental conditions.
Which detection hardware does the S4 use?
eufy specifies PIR sensing for the upper bullet camera and radar-powered motion detection for the lower PTZ section. Its on-device AI supports alerts for people, vehicles and pets.
With HomeBase S380, additional BionicMind functions can distinguish familiar and unfamiliar faces. That HomeBase-assisted recognition is optional functionality, not something to attribute to the standalone camera by itself.

The rotating circle and airborne pot are a contained joke, not a live tracking simulation. The technical chain is fixed-view detection, PTZ handoff, tracked framing and recording to configured local storage.
Where are recordings stored in standalone mode?
The standalone eufyCam S4 includes 32GB of built-in storage and supports a microSD card up to 256GB. The microSD card is not included, and available recording duration varies with event volume, settings and selected recording modes.
Optional cloud features may send clips or preview data to cloud services as needed for the feature selected. Read current service terms if cloud storage or rich notification previews matter to the household.

A 5.5W solar panel, pointed at the sun rather than the neighbour’s fence.
SolarPlus 2.0 can reduce manual charging when the panel receives useful direct sunlight. The sun, unfortunately, does not accept app notifications asking it to move around the gum tree.

Does one hour of sun guarantee endless power?
No. eufy’s one-hour statement assumes optimal direct sunlight and an average daily power demand. Shade, cloud, panel angle, temperature, frequent triggering, live viewing and recording settings all change the balance.
Choose a shadow-free orientation, review charging performance after installation and be prepared to recharge or reposition the panel. “Queensland has plenty of sun” is not a site survey when the panel spends winter behind a jacaranda.

Mission 6 · choose the safehouse
Standalone storage now. HomeBase features if the case expands.
The camera can operate by itself with its 32GB built-in storage and optional microSD expansion. That makes HomeBase S380 an upgrade path rather than an entry ticket. A buyer who needs one camera does not have to purchase a hub merely to make the S4 function.
Add a compatible HomeBase S380 for functions such as BionicMind facial recognition, cross-camera tracking and expanded storage workflows. Those additions depend on current firmware and app support. The HomeBase is not included with this single-camera product.
Do not redirect this wireless camera toward the similarly named eufy PoE NVR system. HomeBase 2, HomeBase Mini and eufy NVR are not supported. Professional S1 is supported: eufy’s current S1 list includes T8172. Shared “S4” branding does not make the ecosystems interchangeable.

No. CamGuard Australia confirms that all components from eufy’s standard single-camera S4 package are included. Only the original retail carton is absent, and the order is supplied in protective packaging instead.
The rechargeable battery may already be installed inside the camera rather than sitting loose in the parcel.
