Solar built in
A 0.9 W panel sits on top of the body. eufy’s three-hour daily direct-sun target assumes average use; shade and heavy activity can mean extra USB charging.
Rain, dust, heat
IP67 published rating and a −20 °C to 50 °C operating range. Mount it under an eave or out in the open; it is designed for both.
Talk and alert
Two-way audio, a 75 dB siren and on-device human detection with phone alerts. Human detection can help filter ordinary movement; it does not guarantee every classification.
The honest details
Before you buy.
- Night footage is black and white. Infrared only. There is no spotlight and no colour night mode on the S220. The S230 has both; this model does not.
- The view is fixed. 135° wide, no pan, no tilt. Aim it once when you mount it.
- It records events, not all day. Motion and human detection trigger clips to the 8 GB on board. No continuous recording, no cloud plan, no NAS export.
- Good means light marks. Small cosmetic marks you may notice up close. They do not affect how it works.
- It alerts. It does not prevent. A camera records, detects and notifies. It is one part of home security, not the whole of it.

What you need
One body, built-in solar
The S220 connects directly to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and does not need a HomeBase for standalone use. Its solar panel is built into the camera. Charge it before installation and choose a place with useful direct sun; shade, frequent events and long recordings can require extra USB charging.
Recording and storage
Events go into built-in memory
The camera has 8 GB of built-in storage for event recordings. No card is required, and local storage does not need a monthly plan. It is not a continuous-recording camera. The exact S220 FAQ excludes cloud recording and NAS/RTSP; a supported HomeBase is a separate storage-system choice.
Power and connection
Local recording can continue without Wi-Fi
For the S220 specifically, eufy says recording can continue after its Wi-Fi connection is lost, and recordings become viewable after reconnection. That is not the same as remote access during the outage. The battery must still have charge, and placement, settings and available storage still matter.
- Charge it fully first. Use the USB-C cable before it goes anywhere near a ladder. A solar camera started half-charged in overcast weather is a second trip up the ladder.
- Pair it next to the router. Open the eufy Security app on a 2.4 GHz network and scan the camera's QR code. Then walk it to the mounting spot and check the signal holds before you drill.
- Mount for sun and view together. The panel is part of the body, so the spot needs roughly three hours of direct sun and a clear 135° view of what matters.
- Set zones and sensitivity. Up to two activity zones. Point them at the gate or the driveway, not the street, and the 8 GB goes a lot further.

Is a Good-grade unit worse at its job than a new one?
No. The grade describes the housing, not the electronics. A renewed unit runs the same published spec sheet. The difference is cosmetic marks and the plain packaging it ships in.
Do I need a HomeBase or a subscription to use it?
No to both. The S220 works on its own over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and saves clips to its built-in 8 GB. HomeBase 3 is an optional add-on for extra features and is not included. There is no monthly fee.
How much sun does it actually need?
eufy's figure is about three hours of direct sunlight a day for sustaining use, with the 0.9 W panel storing up to 400 mAh on a good day against roughly 100 to 130 mAh of typical daily use. A shaded spot will still work, but you will be charging it by USB-C now and then.
What does night footage look like?
Black and white infrared. The S220 has no spotlight and no colour night vision. That is the model's design, not a fault.
When will it ship, and what does delivery cost?

Give it a full first charge
Charge the built-in 6,500 mAh battery by USB-C before mounting. A USB charging cable is included; a mains power adapter is not included.
Pair it beside the router
Add the camera in the eufy Security app while close to your router. The S220 connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, not a 5 GHz-only network.
Find actual sunlight
Mount it around 2–3 metres high where the top panel gets direct sun. eufy says around three hours daily can maintain charge under typical use; real results vary.
Frame the area, then set zones
The 135° field of view suits a driveway, side gate or back deck. Set up to two activity zones to focus alerts on selected areas.
