Before you bring it home
The S3 uses direct Wi-Fi and does not require a HomeBase for standalone use. Charge the main battery with a 5 V / 2 A supply and measure the door and camera clearance first. Optional HomeBase and Matter combinations depend on exact firmware; eufy’s current S3 compatibility statements disagree.
Power and connection
AAA backup means PIN entry only
With the main battery unavailable, four AAA backup batteries support PIN entry only. The manual says other functions are unavailable in that mode, so do not expect palm recognition, camera viewing or connected features to continue. Recharge the main battery for normal operation and keep a key accessible.

The S3 is a connected deadbolt with five practical ways in: palm vein, app, voice control, PIN and a physical key. No fingerprint reader, no dramatic thumb monologue, no housemate appointed Minister for Spare Keys.
Palm recognition can store up to 50 family members. That is either a generous household or the most organised barbecue in North Queensland.

2K HDR, Head To Toe, Main Character Lighting
The built-in 2K HDR camera and video doorbell show a head-to-toe view at the entry, with night vision for after-dark arrivals. HDR is doing more work here than the person who said “I’ll deal with the bins tomorrow.”
See and speak through the eufy app. A smart display is not included, and the doorbell cannot tell whether the visitor is your parcel or your consequences.

A 15,000 mAh rechargeable main battery powers the full experience. eufy rates it for up to five months under its test conditions. Real runtime changes with activity, recordings, connection quality, settings, heat and how often the front door becomes a documentary location.
Four AAA batteries provide emergency PIN access when the main battery is flat. Camera and palm functions are unavailable in that emergency mode. The AAA cast gets one scene and absolutely demands top billing.

Direct compatible Wi-Fi, Because The Router Also Lives Here
The S3 connects directly to compatible Wi-Fi, so a HomeBase is not required for normal setup. Check your router settings against the current exact-model guide. Your phone can be on another band later, but setup needs the lock to meet the correct network first.
Check the supported network settings before setup. A router has requirements, not personal grievances.
Check signal strength at the door before drilling. Queenslander walls, distance and router location can all change the connection.

Is palm unlock the same as fingerprint unlock?
No. The S3 does not have a fingerprint reader. Its contactless palm system uses infrared sensing to map a registered vein pattern beneath the skin. eufy allows up to 50 family-member registrations. Palm recognition is for unlocking, not locking, so smart auto-lock, the app, voice controls and other configured methods handle the rest of the routine. Keep a backup entry method available in case the main battery or connection needs attention.
How long does the battery last, and what do the AAA batteries do?
eufy rates the 15,000 mAh rechargeable main battery for up to five months under its published test conditions. Real runtime varies with recording frequency, motion activity, connection quality, settings, temperature and usage. When the main battery is flat, four AAA batteries can provide emergency PIN entry, but the camera and palm features are unavailable in that mode. Charging takes about 6 to 8 hours with a suitable 5V/2A USB-C setup, and fast charging is not supported.
Will it fit my front door?
Measure before ordering. The guide calls for a standard entry door 35 to 55 mm thick, a 38 or 54 mm cross bore, a 60 or 70 mm backset, a 25.4 mm edge bore and at least 45 mm spacing from an existing lock.
